About MeI started playing guitar in January 1994 and have been teaching since 2006.
I was initially self-taught, learning as much as I possibly could from Guns 'n' Roses and Oasis tab books. I played in various local bands in my late teens and also in my early twenties whilst serving in the RAF. It was during this time that I decided to take a few lessons to make sure that my technique was on track and see what else I could do to improve my skills. As my time in the RAF came to an end, I decided to take some guitar grade exams and join the Registry Of Guitar Tutors. Since then I've passed all the Electric Guitar Grades, including a distinction at Grade Eight, and have also passed the DipLCM and ALCM exams. |
Nowadays I play in various bands covering classic rock through to modern pop, so I can often find common ground with students of all ages when it comes to finding songs to teach.
I've taught students ranging in age from 6 to 67, and from complete beginners to Grade 8 and beyond.
I realise that not everybody who picks up a guitar is looking to become a world-class professional, so I'm happy to teach you what you want, rather than sending you down some pre-determined path to guitar elightenment. There are some things that can't be skipped - you can't expect to just learn the solo from Master of Puppets with no prior knowledge of the guitar - but I can tailor things to suit your needs, whatever they may be.
You can read what some of my students have said about my teaching by clicking here or on the Google+ (G+) icons found on each page.
In addition to my private lessons, I now teach guitar at The Grove Junior School in Harpenden, for Katie Metcalfe Music.
I have a DBS certificate (the new version of the Criminal Record Background Check), dated August 2016 which can be seen upon request.
